3 Best Desserts at Trader Joe’s Right Now

Trader Joe’s is unstoppable right now when it comes to frozen section desserts. You’ve got holiday standbys like the Peppermint Hold the Cones (though it sounds like they’re already done for the season in some places), and Peppermint Joe-Joe ice cream. But the three standouts for me right now are:

Trader Joe’s Mini Chocolate Mousse Desserts

I loved them last year and I was thrilled to see they’re back. So I can tell you they’re just as good this year as they were last. Two perfect bites of smooth chocolate mousse on a shortbread crust. They’re rich enough that two is good for a serving for me. They come six to a package. Don’t let these get by you.

Trader Joe’s Italian Custard Cream Puffs

Another returning item from last year. I love the custard in these and they do hold up for a day (you could push it to two) once you’ve defrosted them. But they’re so good they won’t last long. Grab them now for a New Year’s Eve get together. Items seem to be finishing their run earlier than ever this holiday season at TJ’s.

Trader Joe’s Italian Tiramisu

New for 2023, Trader Joe’s Italian Tiramisu needs to thaw in the fridge for at least 8 hours. And even then it might still be a little frozen on the bottom. So plan ahead! Two to a package, this is a generous serving, so you could easily split one with a friend.

I’ve heard some people say the coffee definitely got them caffeinated, but it wasn’t super strong for me. It is bitter, but the mascarpone layer definitely takes the edge off. Each serving clocks in at 400 calories, 23g of fat and the ingredient list is pretty straightforward. No stabilizers giving the mascarpone weird texture or anything. There is marsala wine in it as you’d expect in the real deal, so if alcohol interactions are an issue, take note.

I liked Trader Joe’s Italian Tiramisu a lot. If you don’t want to take the trouble to track down ladyfingers and make your own, or you don’t have a nonna around to make it for you, Trader Joe’s is serving up a pretty darn good option. At $4.49 for the 2 of them, it’s a great value. Would I buy it again? For sure.
