We Tried Trader Joe’s Vegan Caramelized Onion Dip

Growing up, we were a Lipton’s Onion Soup Mix dip family. Stir the packet into a tub of sour cream or yogurt and let it sit for a half an hour. Voila! But then people started getting fancy, making caramelized onion dip at home. It’s fine, but for me, the salty goodness stands on its own. And now, with Trader Joe’s Vegan Caramelized Onion dip, I’m standing by that.

It’s virtually the same base as the Vegan Tzatziki Dip that came out recently, so it’s off to a good start. It’s on the thicker side, so unless you dig in there, it definitely breaking your Wavy Lays (my fave dipper potato chip).

But here’s the thing, when you caramelize onions, they get very sweet, right? And that’s my only complaint about this dip. I’d rather have an oniony, salty dip than a sweet-ish one. It’s a little too fancy pants for me. But if don’t mind a little sweetness, and you’re having a get together now that your family is vaccinated, this is a good one for both the vegans and non-vegans.

Would def buy again, but I still like the vegan Tzatziki more.
