Simple Summer Grilling for Two with Trader Joe’s Grilled Chimichurri Chicken Skewers

With Trader Joe’s Grilled Chimichurri Chicken Skewers, it’s all about the convenience. Ordinarily I’d make chicken skewers from scratch, but I get the value in not having to plan ahead to marinate the chicken, thread it on skewers and grill it. But then, the recommended reheat method is grilling…so I guess the savings is really in not having to plan ahead. Ok, I guess.

I like some char on grilled chicken, but I think you could do these in the oven and then give them a minute or two under the broiler for that same effect. I grilled them for 9 minutes, 4.5 each side (the box recommends 8-10 overall). You can catch the action in the IG reel below. I ended up making a little wrap with some whole wheat lavash, roasted veg from the night before, some cabbage, and a little bit of harissa.

The chicken stays moist (sorry) after the reheat, and from the two skewers I ate, only one had a partly fatty piece. These are thighs, so it wasn’t totally unexpected. Overall quality was good. The chimichurri flavor is nice, but didn’t have any heat. If you’re looking for a little kick, grab a container of Trader Joe’s Zhoug or a jar of harissa. TJ’s also has chimichurri sauce in the refrigerated section, so that’s another option for some dipping sauce action.

It’s a package of six skewers, one was a little short on meat compared to the others. I’d say this feeds two with side dishes. One hungry person could definitely finish them off in one go, but like a lot of TJ’s frozen food, you’d be getting into really high sodium territory. So, do what’s right for you, obviously.

Overall, I liked Trader Joe’s Grilled Chimichurri Chicken Skewers and at $7.49 a package it seems like a good value for the convenience (at least vis a vis what chicken costs in WA state). Would I buy it again? Yeah, probably. Like I said, I’d usually just make grilled chicken skewers from scratch, but when you just need something quick, it fits the bill.

P.S. Bonus points on the package design for putting the UPC code in a skewer. LOL, cute.
