Until I saw Trader Joe’s Sweet Cannoli Dip, I had no idea it was even a thing. But a quick search around the Internet says people have been making this at home for ages. And for me, I think making it “from scratch” would probably be the way to go. Because that way you can control the sweetness level. Because when TJ’s says it’s “sweet,” they ain’t lying.
After tasting it straight, I knew my dippers were going to have be neutral or salty, so pretzels were the obvious choice. Some folks on Reddit have grabbed TJ’s pistachio and pomegranate crackers. I think TJ’s Ginger or Lemon Thins could also be a good option. To further cut the sweetness, I grated some lemon zest over the top. As suggested by @italianprincess2017 on Instagram, I sprinkled the top with mini chocolate chips. They also suggested pistachios.
The cream cheese tang in it really comes through, so it reminds me a lot of cream cheese frosting, maybe even more than cannoli filling, just with dip consistency. So I could see mixing in a little more ricotta. But that point, you might just want to make it. \_(ツ)_/¯
Would I buy Trader Joe’s Sweet Cannoli Dip again? Ehhhh, probably not for me. It’s a fun idea, it’s an easy desserty thing to put out at a holiday get together…but as you figured out by now, I’d probably just make it.
