We Tried Trader Joe’s Instant Boba Kit

So Trader Joe’s is finally catching up to Costco on carrying an Instant Boba Kit. This one comes four servings to a box ($5.49) with a set of four fat paper straws (yay for paper!) that last long enough for you to finish your drink.

You just microwave the little boba pouch for up to 45 seconds. Mind your microwave, 45 was a little long in mine. Stir in the milk of your choice and some ice. And voilá! The box didn’t tell you how much milk to add. Next time, I’d do a little less. It reminded me of those General Foods International Coffees that used to be around in the 80s. Especially the smell of it. It’s got a caramelized sweetness (but not tooooo sweet), it’s milky, no coffee flavor, obviously. The boba has a nice chewiness as you’d expect.

It looks basically the same as the Boba Bam Costco carried, just in a smaller package (4 packets vs. 12). But it’s unclear if it’s from the same company.

Would I buy Trader Joe’s Instant Boba Kit again? Hard to say. I’m more likely to just go to my local Asian market and take advantage of the fact that are more flavors than just the brown sugar. Or I’d just go to a local shop, so I can get a bubble waffle, too.:)
