We Tried Trader Joe’s Portuguese Custard Tarts

It took a little while for Trader Joe’s Portuguese Custard Tarts to finally show up at my store. Not sure what the hold up was, but now that I’ve finally had them, I kinda wish I’d gotten two boxes.

They come four to a box, and I was surprised to find them not wrapped (which was actually good, less plastic going into the landfill) but still a surprise. You bake them at 375F for 20-25 minutes and they’re done. The box also has air fryer instructions, if that’s your thing.

The pastry is gorgeously crisp and flaky and the custard filling is creamy and sweet, but not too sweet. They’re small, about 2 inches or so in diameter. These would make great little handheld desserts for your next get together, or when you need a 3 pm pick me up with coffee. But like I said, they are only 4 in a box, so grab two.

They’re great exactly as they are, but if you wanna get a little fancy, you could always grate a tiny bit of lemon zest over the top.

Would definitely buy again.
