We Tried Trader Joe’s Dog Biscuit Mix

If you’re just getting your holiday baking underway, don’t forget the pups in your life. In addition to the pet advent calendars that are a Trader Joe’s tradition, this year they’ve also got Trader Joe’s Dog Biscuit Mix.

The basic recipe asks you add oil and water to the mix, but they’ve also got some flavor suggestions on the side of the box — apple and chicken, apple and peanut butter, chicken and cheese and bacon and peanut butter. For my pup, it’s all about the apple(sauce) and peanut butter. Of course, I didn’t have a dog biscuit shaped cookie cutter, so we went with Darth Vader, Yoda, Hello Kitty, a couple of bow ties (the closest thing I had to a dog biscuit!) And of course, some hearts.

It’s as simple as mixing in the applesauce and peanut butter, rolling out the dough and cutting them out. You bake them for 20 minutes, flip them and bake them for another 10 minutes. Since these had faces on them, I just let them go for the half hour without turning them.

I didn’t get a final count on the number of biscuits, just because I used so many different sizes. But it makes enough that you could totally make little gift bags for friends and neighbors. And for us, I liked that there is way less packaging involved than the dog advent calendars, so Trader Joe’s Dog Biscuit Mix was a win. Finn approved!
