The Flip Side by James Bailey |Quick Hit Review

The Flip Side by James Bailey has so many elements of the best rom-coms — a memorable meet cute, the search, the airport dash, supportive friends, but the big thing its missing is an MC to root for.

After a disastrous wedding proposal, which also causes him to lose his job, Josh is back living with his parents. He’s decided to turn over his life decisions to the flip of a coin. (A concept I loved! It’s ridiculous, but that’s what makes it fun). While he’s cheering on a friend who’s running the London Marathon he meets a woman he has instant rapport and chemistry with, but doesn’t get her name. Having met in front of a Van Gogh painting, he calls her Sunflower Girl. Then the search is on…

I could never decide if Josh was actually just a really thoughtless person who didn’t deserve the friends he had, or an affable, everyday guy who’s in an extended rough patch. At points the charm wears thin and it’s all a bit “woe is me.” I honestly didn’t know what Sunflower Girl (aka Lucy) actually saw in him.
