Cooking is Keeping Me Sane in the Midst of COVID-19

So if it’s seemed a little quiet around here, it’s because I’ve been trying to figure out where this blog fits in the new normal. I haven’t been to Trader Joe’s in a week and a half, and whatever’s new seems less important than staying well, and trying not to pass or get a virus from strangers. So…

Like a lot of people self-isolating, I am cooking up a storm. It’s what’s keeping me sane. Instagram is where it’s going down right now. So come say hi:

@dailywaffle, if you like home cooking and cookbook type stuff.

@dailywafflebooks if you like romance, women’s fic, thrilers, book reviews and bookstagram photos.

@wetriedtraderjoes if you usually find yourself at TJ’s twice a week.

I’m doing more video of all sorts, so come on over. In the meantime, if you’re just looking for inspiration, here’s what’s been up in our kitchen lately:

Chocolate Tahini Brownies

CHOCOLATE TAHINI BROWNIES – A Bon Appetit recipe, that btw is gluten-free!

jollof rice

JOLLOF RICE, a West African dish flavored with tomato, red bell pepper, chiles, paprika, curry powder and thyme. Milk Street Subscription required, or it’s in Milk Street: Tuesday Nights.

SUNDAY GRAVY from SEE YOU ON SUNDAY by Sam Sifton (Thank you to Random House for the free copy of the book).

PEPPERONI AND MUSHROOM PIZZA (DOUGH RECIPE)

Finally, here’s a killer cover from Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong that got me smiling and dancing in my kitchen. Hang in there, folks.
