We Tried Trader Joe’s Harissa Chicken Thighs

It’s a weird time to review Trader Joe’s products, because well, it’s just a weird time, period. We’re in the throws of a pandemic, you’re doing your part to socially distance yourself. And maybe you did or didn’t pick up a package of these chicken thighs on your last TJ’s run. All anyone is thinking about right now are beans, pasta, and peanut butter. And apparently frozen pizzas. But once we get through this, look for Trader Joe’s Harissa Chicken Thighs in the meat section.

The package I bought had two full thighs and two smallish thigh pieces for $7.88. The chicken is pre-marinated with tomato paste, olive oil, dried red pepper, parsley, paprika, garlic and onion powder. See the label below for the full ingredient list.

I wasn’t a big fan of Trader Joe’s jarred harissa, but this is more tomatoey. It still has a nice kick from the dried red pepper. Cooking them is pretty straight-forward, either bake or grill. I opted for the grill marks and more flavor.

Verdict: I really liked these harissa chicken thighs! I served it with a cucumber, tomato, red onion salad and pita or pita chips. Quick cooking, a nice spicy kick (it might be too much for some kids), and they’re pretty versatile. You could do wraps, you could serve it with couscous and roasted vegetables. I’d definitely buy them again.
