Blitzed by Alexa Martin | Spot Review

ARC provided by the publisher for review

BLITZED by Alexa Martin was one of my most anticipated 2019 reads. As we got to know Brynn Sterling over the course of INTERCEPTED (review) and FUMBLED (review), it was pretty clear she’d eventually get her book. Her woman-focused bar, HERS, became the de facto gathering spot for the WAGS associated with the Mustangs.

That’s where BLITZED starts, at her bar. On premiere night for Love the Player, a reality show focused on several of the Denver Mustangs. Maxwell Lewis, the defensive back who Brynn’s been crushing on, is in the house that night, and they get a little flirting in before a phone call ruins it. Sigh.

I loved Brynn, I loved the lady friendships, and I loved the slow burn that turns super sexy. BUT. There’s a pretty serious issue introduced in the first chapter that finally gets explained, then basically explained away extremely late (at like 90%) in the book. It was kind of like whiplash.

Given what we know about assault/assault allegations in the NFL, I was surprised and disappointed that it was so easily explained away to achieve the happily ever after. I couldn’t overlook it. And given how Brynn reacts to the whole scenario, the HEA was a little hard to believe in the end.

For me, BLITZED had three strong quarters, but the final kick veered far left of the goal posts, and came up short as the clock ticked down to 0:00.
