We’re less than week away from the final season of Game of Thrones and HBO is hyping the final watch with several brand tie-ins. Limited edition Game of Thrones Oreos are now hitting store shelves, joining Ommegang Brewery’s special edition beers, a line of Scotch whiskies, wines from California and Mountain Dew cans that reveal Arya’s kill list. The Game of Thrones Oreos feature the Lannister, Stark and Targaryan house sigils, as well as the Night King. I picked up mine at Fred Meyer in the Pacific Northwest. Other fans are reporting sightings at their local Walmarts and Target stores.
I also picked up the wines, which have been available for a couple of years at my local World Market. On offer: a 2016 Chardonnay (Central Coast); a 2016 Red Wine blend from Paso Robles; and a 2017 Pinot Noir from Oregon. All priced in the $20 range. We sampled the chardonnay and the red blend, neither is all that impressive or memorable to me. The reviews on World Market and Wine.com give them higher marks, and in fact Wilfred Wong of Wine.com gave the Chardonnay an 89.
The labels are pretty, so you could always use them for party decor if you’re doing a watch party. BevMo is also carrying a Game of Thrones Napa Valley Cabernet for $58.99 retail, currently $49.99 Club BevMo members. For that price and based on the other wines available, I’ll be skipping it.
Diageo is also getting in on the Game of Thrones tie-ins with a line of Scotch Whiskies and a Johnnie Walker special edition ‘White Walker’ blend. Check for availability on the Johnnie Walker site. We spotted it at Costco.
Game of Thrones’ final season premieres Sunday, April 14.
