When I heard Trader Joe’s S’mores Ice Cream had a graham cracker ice cream flavored base, I thought, Hmh. What does that mean? I couldn’t quite imagine what the actual flavor would be. Turns out, it’s on the slightly malty side. Which means, Trader Joe’s S’mores Ice Cream tastes A LOT like a Wendy’s Frosty to me! Who can say no to that?!
So, along with the graham cracker flavored ice cream, you’re getting marshmallow and chocolate swirls. So it’s not full marshmallows like you’d get in rocky road, it’s more like marshmallow cream swirled in there. My pint didn’t quite get its full fill, but whatevs, it’s fine.
Since it doesn’t have chunks of graham cracker in it, I originally thought I might squish a scoop between two grahams for a little ice cream sandwich action. I do think Trader Joe’s needs to think about mix-ins in their ice creams more often, just for texture. Nuts, cookie bits, something. Oh wait, I guess the Wildberry Cheesecake might have some. I need more!
But since it tasted like a Frosty, I just had a few bites. I think this one will be superior on a cone rather than with a bowl/spoon, but that’s personal preference. I like the Golden Caramel Swirl better on a cone, too, it turns out. LMK if you want a review of that one.
Will I buy Trader Joe’s S’mores Ice Cream again? Yes. There are just so many ice cream options in the freezer case at Trader Joe’s right now, and too little room in my freezer!
