Over the last several years, we’ve seen contemporary romance novels move into hardcover, from authors like Christina Lauren, Abby Jimenez, Emily Henry, and Kennedy Ryan. For better or worse, hardcovers add cachet and for some readers, confer added value onto the author’s work. And they open up eligibility for things like the New York Times Bestseller list. Now having read THE PARIS MATCH by Kate Clayborn, I’m here to tell you it should have been released in hardcover and trade with a campaign to give it a shot at the list.
It’s THAT good. It’s “I’d pay $30” good. It’s “Wow, this should have had a reversible dust jacket.”

In THE PARIS MATCH, physician Layla Bailey is heading to the City of Light for her ex-sister-in-law’s destination wedding. She’s in for a week of group activities that will include interacting with her ex for the first time since their “it was amicable” divorce. When the bride starts to get cold feet, Layla and grumpy, borderline angry best man Griffin are on a mission to make sure the wedding happens.
Just as New York played a big role in Love Lettering, Paris is more than just a 2-dimensional setting in THE PARIS MATCH. You’ll feel whisked away on your own summer vacation as Layla and Griffin get around the city and the wedding party heads to Versailles.
But if you know Kate’s work, she can take what sounds like a standard romance premise and weaves it into something altogether next level. I said it a few years ago in my review of Love at First. “Is it too soon to call Kate Clayborn a master?” If it was then, it certainly isn’t now. The Paris Match is sexy and sensitive and romantic. It’s a must read. 5-stars all the way across the sky and every twinkling light on the damn Eiffel Tower. Do not sleep on this one.
Kate is wrapping up her mini tour for THE PARIS MATCH with a stop tonight, April 9, at Lovestruck Books in Cambridge, MA; and tomorrow night, April 10, in Brooklyn at The Ripped Bodice (tickets required).
The audiobook is narrated by Samantha Archuleta.
