Just for the Season, like it’s FMC, is an effervescent delight! If you’re looking for a voicey, fresh historical romance, this is it!

It’s no secret that I was hoping for Charlotte’s story almost as soon as we met her in The Trouble With Anna. And Rachel Griffiths does not disappoint! If you love a historical romance with a modern sensibility, a second chance in which miscommunication is resolved through, what?!, actual communication, and/or a delightful meddling Dowager, Just for the Season’s a must read!

Charlotte rather finds herself backed into a corner: under edict to marry by the end of the summer, and address her mother’s debt situation. One potentially solves the other, if it wasn’t for the fact that Charlotte just doesn’t want to marry. For his part, MMC Wolfgang Latham is a second son who unexpectedly comes into his title, Duke of Warrick, after the death of his brother. He and Charlotte had a correspondence going which ceases seemingly out of nowhere (see aforementioned miscommunication).

While I missed Anna in this installment, Griffiths gives us a rich cast of characters joining Charlotte for a house party at Clare and I’m already hoping we’ll see Helena get her moment. I also loved that Charlotte has a job, as owner/proprietor of a silk mill where fine fabrics and cheeky embroidery are created.

Overall, a very fun read with a great cast of characters. I hope we’ll get to see more of them!
