So far, I’ve been super impressed with all of Trader Joe’s oat milk based frozen desserts. From the Strawberry Ice Cream with Almonds to last summer’s fudgesicles, I mean, they have been top notch. Creamy texture, good flavors, not too oaty. So the bar has been set pretty high. Trader Joe’s Oat Milk Ice Cream Sandwiches fall just a teensy bit short.
Now look, am I glad that we have an ice cream sandwich option back after the soy-based ones went away? Heck yeah. But let’s be honest.
The oat milk ice cream in these isn’t as good as their other previous options. It’s not as creamy, and if we have to compare it to a cow-dairy dessert, it’s more like ice milk than any ice cream. And the vanilla is subtle to the point I can’t really taste it. The good news is, these are a little bit bigger than the soy ones were, if I’m remembering correctly.
And do you still get that ice cream sandwich experience? Oh yeah. The chocolate cookie part does that stick-to-the-back-of-your-teeth thing and overall, they’re good. Will I buy Trader Joe’s Oat Milk Ice Cream Sandwiches again, despite my criticisms? Absolutely. Do I wish they came in Neapolitan? Yes.
