We Tried Trader Joe’s Cheese-less Cheesecakes

You know that saying, “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should?” That’s how I feel about Trader Joe’s Cheese-less Cheesecakes. Now available in the freezer section ($3.99 for a pack of two), my hopes were high for this dairy-free dessert.

trader joe's cheeseless cheesecake topped with a raspberry on a white plate.

If anyone could pull off a cheesecake with a rich mouthfeel, while still being vegan, I thought it would be TJ’s. Maybe they’d use coconut cream? But flip to the back of the box, and you’ll find the base includes lima beans, a vegetable oil blend, gum arabic, sea salt, konjac gum, cultured dextrose, agave syrup, natural flavors, oats, calcium citrate, citric acid and more.

At 300 calories per cheesecake with 26g of sugar and that list of ingredients, I knew this one wasn’t gonna be a repeat purchase. Tasting it confirmed this one is a big ol’ nope for us.

Trader Joe’s Cheese-less Cheesecakes are thin with none of the richness you’d expect from even a low-fat cheesecake. It’s sweet with barely any of cheesecake’s tang. I took two bites, and got my husband to try it, in case I was just being overly critical.

Vegan or not, I think you’re better off skipping this one and picking a different dessert altogether.

Um…you’re being overly critical lol. That cheesecake is amazing. It absolutely has the tang and creaminess that I remember real full dairy cheesecake having. I’m not sure what you were expecting but this is so damn good.
