Trader Joe’s just can’t help itself when it comes to cauliflower. But where people looooooove the Cauliflower Gnocchi, and the Cauliflower Thins are interesting, I don’t think Trader Joe’s Creamy Cauliflower Jalapeño Dip is going to set any records. It’s true that cauliflower is the first ingredient, but I don’t actually know what it’s doing in this dip.
It’s really a mix of cream cheese, ricotta, and parmesan with some hidden cauliflower. The jalapeño adds a little flavor, but zero heat. Overall, it’s pretty plain. You wouldn’t know there is cauliflower in it, if the label didn’t tell you.
I dipped some tortilla chips in it, and I can’t see just opening the container and putting it out alongside salsa or guacamole or whatever chip and dip you’re doing. Too plain, too blah. So I did a little experimenting. Check it out in the IG video below.
If anything, Trader Joe’s Creamy Cauliflower Jalapeño Dip seems like a cream sauce to go with pasta, so I boiled a little orzo. While the pan was still warm, I mixed in a couple of tablespoons of the dip. It didn’t separate, so that was good. In a pinch, it would make a passable mac and cheese type thing. It needed a little salt, and probably more parmesan cheese. And eat it right away, the pasta got a little gummy after it sat for awhile.
I thought I might do a stacked enchilada thing, using the dip as a sauce for it. But after trying the orzo, I decided against possibly wasting the ingredients.
Overall, Trader Joe’s Creamy Cauliflower Jalapeño Dip is meh. Wouldn’t buy it again.
