Trader Joe’s seems to have coconut water options all over the store, but I’m picky and most of them have been just ok. Usually they’re flat or taste watered down. The best of them is in the refrigerated section, and it was my favorite until I tried Trader Joe’s new Sparkling Coconut Water with Yuzu. Sold in a 4-pack for $3.99, the new coconut water has 60 calories per can, contains 99 percent juice and is product of Vietnam. Somehow, it also has 3 grams of fiber.
If you’ve never had yuzu, the flavor is kind of hard to describe. It’s a Japanese citrus fruit that’s it’s own thing. Here it just comes across as citrusy. The coconut flavor takes a back seat to the yuzu, but it’s definitely there. Overall, it’s a delicious alternative to soda. Toss a can into your lunch bag, or treat yourself to a Sparkling Coconut Water cocktail after a long day. Replace the tonic in your vodka tonic or use it to give your gin fizz its bubbles.
Trader Joe’s also has new seltzer waters in 3 flavors — lemon and ginger juice, cranberry and lime juice, and blood orange and orange juice. Zero calorie, zero sugar, these seltzers compete with LaCroix, Bubly and Polar Seltzers. We tried the lemon ginger and it tastes like real ginger, rather than ginger ale. They go for $2.99 for a 4-pack. The graphic design is super cute, too.
