A couple years back, Trader Joe’s had some now discontinued Italian custard filled cream puffs that I LOVED. My hopes were high that Trader Joe’s Mini Eclairs might fill that hole in my holiday heart. Each box comes with six flavors: Salted Caramel, Vanilla, Lemon, Dark Chocolate, Coffee and Raspberry.

The box directs you to thaw them in the fridge overnight, but the longer they thaw, the softer the choux buns get. So, you might only need a couple of hours, really. Salted caramel and raspberry are the best, coffee’s fine, and chocolate and vanilla are pretty standard. The custard filling is sweeter than I remember the old cream puffs being, but it’s just a couple of bites.
Trader Joe’s mini eclairs good, but not amazing (let’s say 3.5-4 stars). If you need mini desserts for a holiday get together, these will be fun. But I didn’t fall in love with them like I did those cream puffs. I’d probably pick up a package of TJ’s custard-filled Mini Taiyaki to go along with.
