So you’ll notice a couple things about Trader Joe’s updated Margherita Pizza in the freezer section. First is that they’ve ditched the “Trader Giotto’s” branding and inverted the name. The old version was Pizza Margherita, the new one is Margherita Pizza. But in addition to a packaging update, the pizza bones from this pizza are thicker. Aficionados would say the cornichone is more pronounced with a chewier raised edge.

I never had the old one unfortunately. It just didn’t look that appealing despite also being baked in a woodfired oven. But this new one, I was like, ok, show me whatcha got. Here it is pre-bake. The center is thinner than the edges (as you’d expect). So be gentle sliding it onto the pan.

I baked it as directed at 425F for 9-12 minutes. At 9 mins, it still seemed almost the same color, so I went for 3 more and the cheese was a little toastier than I wanted for a margherita. So know your oven. I should have known better with mine. I think my pizza bones ended up being a little tougher as a result.

I could have eaten the whole thing on my own, but with a salad, I just had half. For $4.79, it’s a great value for a frozen pizza. The crust isn’t as amazing as homemade or from a pizzeria, but pretty decent. Would I buy it again? I’d consider it! But I also have a small freezer, so space is at a premium.

P.S. This is the previous version’s box.
