Hot on the heels of their Cookies and Cream Mini Sheet Cake, Trader Joe’s just rolled out Toasted Coconut ($5.99). You gotta love coconut for this one. It’s a coconut cake with a coconut cream cheese icing. And I’m so sorry to use this word, but it is pretty dense and VERY MOIST.

The cake itself is packed with coconut, so it’s almost like eating a macaroon. It’s pretty sweet, but I could still see drizzling some dark chocolate over it to give it that chocolate dipped macaroon vibe. I like that they keep going with cream cheese frosting so it’s got a little bit of a tang to offset the sweetness.

As much as I like coconut, I can’t say this is a fave. Fine, but not amazing, you know? I would have preferred more like an old school German chocolate cake, maybe?

As usual with coconut, it’s higher on the calories and fat side. And it’s packing 28g of sugar per serving. So for me personally, I’d rather save my sugar grams for something else. It’s nice that it’s made with canola oil versus palm. Butter might have been even better. Would I buy it again? For us? No. I like the gluten-free yellow cake with chocolate frosting more. And if I want a coconut fix, I’d get a box of Samoas.
