In the aftermath of Valentine's Day only a few new items seemed to roll in last week, but I stopped in after a dentist appointment today and there were plenty of new and returning items to chuck into my basket. As spotted in the Pacific Northwest.

I've got the oven preheating for Trader…
If You've Only Tried Trader Joe's Cauliflower Pizza Crust, It's Time to Branch Out
We're not a gluten-free household, so cauliflower pizza crust is more of a novelty than a requirement. I tried Trader Joe's cauliflower crust a couple of years ago just to see what it was like. I wasn't all that impressed with…
It wouldn't be the dailywaffle if we didn't try the pizza dough in Alton Brown's EveryDayCook.
Is it weird to have a house pizza dough? Well, we eat make and eat enough pizza around here that Kenji Lopez-Alt's NY-Style dough turned into the go-to recipe. But last week, as I was cooking my way through Alton…
October is national pizza month. I haven't made a pizza for every day of the month so far, but I'm close. But a lot of them have been very similar, variations of pepperoni, olive and whatever peppers I have in the fridge.
This one happens to be the last ball of dough from Kenji Lopez-Alt's New…
Sometimes there's no big story. Sometimes it's just what you made for dinner. That sometime is now.

The crappy pizzas of childhood scar us all. Forgettable as they may be, greasy slapdash cardboard slices from Chuck E. Cheese or Peter Piper form our first experiences with pizza. They create the far end of your spectrum, so that when you come back to that end of the scale around 2 a.m. in your…
I’ve been, let's call it what it is, short my entire life. On my tallest day, coincidentally, the day I got my driver's license, I was 5'1. So when you find a pair of pants that fits without needing alterations, you buy three pairs in black and never look back. It’s the same thing with pizza dough. When you find a dough recipe that works, you just keep on with it. For me, that’s been the Food Lab’s NY-style pizza dough. But after awhile, you start to need another pair of pants. What I really wanted was a whole wheat crust. So I started tinkering with my tried and true. Tinkering until I got the Food Lab’s NY-style pizza dough to go whole wheat.
Today, it's been eight days since I’ve seen my husband. I’ve eaten five dinners on my own, if granola and snack mix on the plane home from Austin count as “dinner.” Cooking what I like, only for myself, usually that’s totally liberating. I get to eat all the things I like and he doesn’t. I see myself leaning against the stove in a crisp white shirt (mmm, very practical), sleeves rolled up, stirring a pot with one hand, contemplating my day while leisurely sipping a glass of red wine. Like in a movie.
