We Tried Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Yellow Mini Sheet Cake
with Chocolate Frosting! I've been on alert for Trader Joe's Yellow Mini Sheet Cake with chocolate frosting after seeing u/aswewaltz posted it in NY on Reddit 8 days ago. Every trip, I was disappointed. But today...finally... TJ's in the PNW have been blessed with the new gluten free sheet cake. So let's cut into it!…
We Tried Trader Joe’s Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns
I was skeptical when I saw that Trader Joe's newest dumpling was teriyaki-flavored. Teriyaki in a bao? I imagined a gloopy super sweet soy-based sauce overwhelming the veg filling. But now that I've tried Trader Joe's Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns? I think it's meant to be more of a shorthand toward a sweet,…

Yea or Nay on 3 New Fall/Winter Trader Joe’s Items

Not every Trader Joe’s item needs a full on review. So today I’m bringing you quick hit, mini reviews with yea or nay on some new fall/winter items. We’ve got ice cream, we’ve got rolls, and we’ve got fruit spread. Let’s go.

TRADER JOE’S GINGERBREAD ICE CREAM

While my pint of Trader Joe’s Gingerbread Ice Cream was lacking in gingerbread pieces — it was more like crumbs here and there– it gets a yea! The flavor does build up on you, so a small scoop is ideal. And with a pinch of Maldon salt on top, it’d be perfect. Texture-wise, this one was pretty soft and it had been in the freezer for several days. I should have grabbed a box of lemon or ginger thins to make little ice cream sandwiches.

PAO D’AGUA PORTUGUESE ROLLS

I can’t say I was familiar with these rolls aside from the bag showing up at Trader Joe’s. It’s a basic yeast roll with wheat and rye flour. Eight to a bag. They bake up in 10 minutes with a nice. crispy exterior, that softens a bit as they cool. They didn’t take on any color in my oven, and were tasty with a little butter. Pretty straight forward. It’s a YEA. As Trader Joe’s frozen bread options go, I liked them better than the mini baguettes. Buy them again? Sure.

MAPLE CRANBERRY ORANGE SPREAD

I’m still trying to get my head around Trader Joe’s Maple Cranberry Orange spread. It tastes more like it would be handpie filling. The maple brings a caramelly-ness to the whole thing, so it definitely stands out from the jarred cranberry relish TJ’s has around Thanksgiving. Spread it on some toast, biscuits, an English muffin. You could probably even use it in shortcut cinnamon rolls. Would I buy it again? Ehhhh, It’s fine. I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it, so probably not. It’s a NAY.
