We don&#8217;t get down there as much as we should (our friends can vouch for that!). So when an opportunity to try <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ateliercrenn.com\" target=\"_blank\">Dominique Crenn&#8217;s &#8220;poetic culinaria&#8221;<\/a> came up at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mattsinthemarket.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Matt&#8217;s in the Market<\/a>, it was hard to pass up. Except we did, because I thought, well, we can&#8217;t do these dinners two weeks in a row. It&#8217;ll be too much. But then, after a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/2012\/05\/08\/matts-in-the-market-meets-pok-pok\/\" target=\"_blank\">wonderful meal with Andy Ricker<\/a>, we went for it, got on the waiting list and hoped for the best.<\/p>\n<p>Not only was it a chance to try Chef Crenn\u2019s modernist cuisine outside her home turf in the Bay Area, but it would be interesting to see how the two chefs &#8212; Chef Crenn and Matt&#8217;s Chef Chester Gerl &#8212; would develop a menu of complements. This isn&#8217;t just plating, it&#8217;s creation. Mmmm.  Seriously, the phrase &#8220;head cheese&#8221; needs to be banned from the English language.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/2012\/05\/16\/traveling-chefs-dominique-crenn-at-matts-in-the-market\/pttc-fromage-de-tete-picked-onion\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8195\"><img src=\"https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/wp-content\/plugins\/trx_addons\/components\/lazy-load\/images\/placeholder.png\" data-trx-lazyload-height style=\"height: 0; padding-top: 100%;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-trx-lazyload-src=\"https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/PTTC-fromage-de-tete-picked-onion.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"PTTC fromage de tete picked onion\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8195\"   \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><center>Details. I told you it was beautiful.<\/center><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/2012\/05\/16\/traveling-chefs-dominique-crenn-at-matts-in-the-market\/pttc-final-touches-wild-garden\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8212\"><img src=\"https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/wp-content\/plugins\/trx_addons\/components\/lazy-load\/images\/placeholder.png\" data-trx-lazyload-height style=\"height: 0; padding-top: 57.083333333333%;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-trx-lazyload-src=\"https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/PTTC-final-touches-wild-garden.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"PTTC final touches wild garden\" width=\"480\" height=\"274\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8212\"   \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Wild Garden,&#8221; which heads this post, was one the top dishes of the night. If I just say, smoked potatoes with cauliflower, it&#8217;s wildly oversimplifying and just telling you what was in it.  The burnt onion\/bonito consomme was gorgeous. And although we should have been able to cross Atelier Crenn off our SF list, I&#8217;m intrigued to see what Chef Crenn can do with a vegetarian-only menu and frankly, the <a href=\"http:\/\/sweets.seriouseats.com\/2012\/05\/first-look-dessert-tasting-menu-at-atelier-crenn-san-francisco-slideshow.html#\" target=\"_blank\">dessert tasting menu<\/a> looks amazing as well.<\/p>\n<p>Matt&#8217;s in the Market&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mattsinthemarket.com\/chefs\/travelingchefs.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Planes, Trains and Traveling Chef series<\/a> has at least one more dinner to go &#8211; June 11 with Naomi Pomeroy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.beastpdx.com\" target=\"_blank\">Beast<\/a> in Portland.<\/p>\n<p>P.S. If it seems there\u2019s less cooking on the Waffle lately, it\u2019s because the weather in Seattle has been fantastic.  There\u2019s a direct correlation between the amount of sunshine and the volume of my posts.  The truth is, I\u2019ve just been making regular home food or dishes I\u2019ve already written about.
