{"id":5796,"date":"2012-01-14T21:05:13","date_gmt":"2012-01-15T05:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/?p=5796"},"modified":"2016-10-20T10:42:21","modified_gmt":"2016-10-20T17:42:21","slug":"olive-oil-cake-with-clementine-marmalade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/olive-oil-cake-with-clementine-marmalade\/","title":{"rendered":"OMG: Olive Oil Cake with Clementine Marmalade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This week there were two desserts on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seriouseats.com\" target=\"_blank\">Serious Eats<\/a> I bookmarked to try &#8212; first, this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seriouseats.com\/recipes\/2011\/11\/maple-cake-with-brown-butter-apples-recipe-fall.html\" target=\"_blank\">maple cake with brown butter apples<\/a> and this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seriouseats.com\/recipes\/2012\/01\/let-them-eat-olive-oil-cake-with-tangerine-marmalade-recipe.html\" target=\"_blank\">olive oil cake with tangerine marmalade<\/a>. I took it as a sign from the universe that just because it&#8217;s only half way into January, there&#8217;s no reason I shouldn&#8217;t have dessert. And the olive oil cake is practically heart-healthy, on account of the olive oil and all. It&#8217;s literally a single layer olive oil cake soaked with tangerine marmalade. And if you saw the <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/p1A3Az-1tV\">Clementine-Ginger marmalade <\/a>I made last weekend, well, it was kismet, or serendipity, or maybe just plain timely.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/2012\/01\/14\/olive-oil-cake-with-clementine-marmalade\/olive-oil-cake-with-clementine-marmalade-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5798\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload_inited aligncenter size-full wp-image-5798\" title=\"olive oil cake with clementine marmalade 2\" src=\"https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/olive-oil-cake-with-clementine-marmalade-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/olive-oil-cake-with-clementine-marmalade-2.jpg 500w, https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/olive-oil-cake-with-clementine-marmalade-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/olive-oil-cake-with-clementine-marmalade-2-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll just tell you, clementines and olive oil cake are M-F-E-O (you saw Sleepless in Seattle, right? Made For Each Other). The cake browned on both sides, and while you could lop off the crust, I didn&#8217;t think the appearance was much improved by doing that. Since we weren&#8217;t eating the whole thing immediately, I opted to slice it and dress it with the marmalade, which soaked into the cake, resulting in a ridiculously luxurious sweetness that amplified the olive oil.<\/p>\n<p>One way or another, I think you&#8217;ve got to make the marmalade. Commercial marmalade may be too thick, even if you warm it. And truthfully, I think this would also be amazing with blood orange marmalade and might produce a color closer to the original photo on Serious Eats.
