Adults. Teacher friends, you were smart to get into education. It\u2019s a job I know I could never do, let\u2019s face it, unless I taught 1st or 2nd grade, all the kids would be taller than me. But more than that, you get breaks!<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re just back from some time in Hawaii for the annual escape to sunshine, hence the radio silence around here. The one thing we didn\u2019t have for the duration of our trip was pizza. Hanalei Pizza Company is gone, about to be replaced by a Puka Dog. So, for the first time in ages, we went 10 days without even a slice of pizza. Since we had nothing else in the house, pizza was our first meal back.<\/p>\n<p>And whaddya know, my first post back is a Friday Night Slice. Today\u2019s slice is a vegetarian Kale, Calabrian Chile &amp; Mozzarella pie with thinly shaved garlic.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload_inited aligncenter size-full wp-image-12086\" src=\"https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/kale-calabrian-chile-pizza-prebake-dailywaffle.jpg\" alt=\"kale calabrian chile pizza prebake |dailywaffle\" width=\"599\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/kale-calabrian-chile-pizza-prebake-dailywaffle.jpg 599w, https:\/\/dailywaffle.com\/stage1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/kale-calabrian-chile-pizza-prebake-dailywaffle-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I can\u2019t call our time away\u00a0a vacation, it was mostly a change of scenery. I learned that heading out on a Tuesday and heading home on a Wednesday, while a few bucks cheaper, was rough. The truth of vacation is, no matter what day of the week you leave, you\u2019ll be working late wrapping stuff up and trying to get your bags packed, and you really need a day on the backend to let your body figure out what time zone you\u2019re in.<\/p>\n<p>I should have had more time for drafting posts while we were away, but I read instead, making some good headway into Maggie Stiefvater\u2019s Dream Thieves \u2013 the second book in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0545424933\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0545424933&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=thedaiwaf-20\">The Raven Boys<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=thedaiwaf-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0545424933\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/> series. Our cooking in a vacation rental was more limited than it would be at home, so soon after we got back I made a new batch of pizza dough.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the first I\u2018ve made with <a href=\"http:\/\/giustos.com\/home_baker\/flours\/bread-flours\/high-performer-high-protein-unbleached-white-flour.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Giusto\u2019s High Performer flour<\/a> \u2013 won in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BakingSteel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook giveaway from the Baking Steel<\/a> folks. Using the usual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seriouseats.com\/recipes\/2012\/07\/basic-new-york-style-pizza-dough.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NY-style recipe<\/a>, I was able to get a nice crust edge and a really thin center, thinner than I\u2019ve been able to manage with the King Arthur Bread flour.
