We Tried Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Yellow Mini Sheet Cake
with Chocolate Frosting! I've been on alert for Trader Joe's Yellow Mini Sheet Cake with chocolate frosting after seeing u/aswewaltz posted it in NY on Reddit 8 days ago. Every trip, I was disappointed. But today...finally... TJ's in the PNW have been blessed with the new gluten free sheet cake. So let's cut into it!…
We Tried Trader Joe’s Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns
I was skeptical when I saw that Trader Joe's newest dumpling was teriyaki-flavored. Teriyaki in a bao? I imagined a gloopy super sweet soy-based sauce overwhelming the veg filling. But now that I've tried Trader Joe's Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns? I think it's meant to be more of a shorthand toward a sweet,…

We Tried Trader Joe’s Passion Fruit Rounds

Where my lilikoi fans at?! When I saw Trader Joe’s Passion Fruit Rounds in the nut/dried fruit aisle, I thought, “Please, please let them be good.” I mean, if you’ve ever had a passion fruit, you know how small they are, and how you just get maybe 3-4 small scoops of pulp per fruit. But the flavor is unmatched.

And while Trader Joe’s Passion Fruit Rounds do have apple juice concentrate in the mix, they pack real passion fruit flavor. They’re appropriately called FRUIT SNACKS, because they really are more like fruit leather (and with the amount of sugar in them, they’re basically candy). I’ve never really been really a fruit roll-up person, but I really, really like these.

Each bag is $2.99 with 15 disks in it, making them about 20 cents a piece. Totally worth it. They had some seeds, I mean it’s part of the passion fruit experience, but nothing overboard.

Trader Joe’s Passion Fruit Rounds are about as sugary as the Trader Joe’s mandarin slices, which is to say, sugary. But I’m not mad at it. And unlike the mandarin slices, I’ve already bought a second bag. So yes, I’d buy them again.

I tried to figure out what you might do with them other than eat them straight out of the bag. They’re not really worth using as a cupcake topper, either full size or cut into bits. They’re not even something you’d garnish a drink with…so maybe just enjoy them as they are. LMK if you think of anything.

  • Yup, the added sugars are kind of a nightmare. But sometimes it's worth it, so we're not mad at 'em either. Heck, we would be willing to make the sugar sacrifice for these rounds.
