We Tried Trader Joe’s Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns
I was skeptical when I saw that Trader Joe's newest dumpling was teriyaki-flavored. Teriyaki in a bao? I imagined a gloopy super sweet soy-based sauce overwhelming the veg filling. But now that I've tried Trader Joe's Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns? I think it's meant to be more of a shorthand toward a sweet,…

Hurry Up with My Damn Croissants aka We Tried Trader Joe’s Mini Croissant Swirls

The one downside of Trader Joe’s frozen croissants is that you have to remember to proof them overnight. With Trader Joe’s Mini Croissant Swirls, they’re giving you a READY-TO-BAKE backup plan. While not exactly the same texture as a full size croissant, you still get the flakiness of croissant dough with good quality chocolate in a snackable little package.

The directions call for baking them on parchment paper at 350F for 25-30 minutes. I started checking at 25 minutes and went to 28. As you can see below, I should have gone the full 30 minutes. One was a wee bit too light, so the dough ended up being underbaked in the center. You want the golden brown to be uniform. (My oven’s getting old, and I should know better).

They come 8 to a bag, so if you’re thinking of using these for an Easter brunch, I’d get two bags at least, depending on the size of your crowd. They’re totally snackable, the chocolate is good quality, and these will be gone in a snap.

Two swirls weigh in at 210 calories and 12g of fat, but it’s a croissant/puff pastry, so that’s not unexpected. What I like is the ingredient list is pretty straightforward. Would I buy Trader Joe’s Mini Croissant Swirls (chocolate chip edition) again? Oh, heck yeah. And don’t forget, Trader Joe’s also has READY-to-BAKE Cheese Pastry Rolls that would also be great for Easter Brunch.
