Trader Joe's Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns bag with bao on a red steamer basket
We Tried Trader Joe’s Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns
I was skeptical when I saw that Trader Joe's newest dumpling was teriyaki-flavored. Teriyaki in a bao? I imagined a gloopy super sweet soy-based sauce overwhelming the veg filling. But now that I've tried Trader Joe's Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns? I think it's meant to be more of a shorthand toward a sweet,…

We Tried Trader Joe’s Breaded Fried Ravioli

We Tried Trader Joe’s Breaded Fried Ravioli

Just in time for Super Bowl Sunday, Trader Joe’s dropped a new snack in its frozen section: Trader Joe’s Breaded Fried Ravioli. Filled with a mix of ricotta, Monterey jack, mozzarella, asiago and parmesan, these cheesy little pillows are breaded and fried. And they’re just waiting for you to throw them in the oven (or air fryer).

I can’t claim to be a toasted ravioli expert, but the verdict here: highly snackable.

I’d rank them as good to pretty good. They crisp up enough in the oven and though a few of them had their cheese showing through, they didn’t stick to the baking sheet.

Texture-wise, they’re a little firm, almost chewy, but it’s not like you’d expect them to be floppy, anyway. I mean, they’re fried. There’s a little bit of garlic and onion in the breading, but I’d definitely grab some marinara to go with. I went with a jar of TJ’s Tomato Basil Marinara.

Health food it is not, but the ingredient list isn’t horrifying. Sodium is a little high, but that’s pretty typical. You can check out the details in the photo below. In a one lb. bag there were 19 ravioli, and while a few were beat up, they were all bakeable.

Overall, Trader Joe’s Breaded Fried Ravioli were a win. They won’t be my husband’s jam, but I’ll be baking up the rest of the bag for the game on Sunday for sure.
