We Tried Trader Joe’s Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns
I was skeptical when I saw that Trader Joe's newest dumpling was teriyaki-flavored. Teriyaki in a bao? I imagined a gloopy super sweet soy-based sauce overwhelming the veg filling. But now that I've tried Trader Joe's Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns? I think it's meant to be more of a shorthand toward a sweet,…

We Tried Trader Joe’s Boozy Macarons

Trader Joe’s Boozy Macarons have the holidays written all over them. Does anyone else remember the boozy pound cake Trader Joe’s (and other places) had in the early 90s? I think it came in multiple flavors — rum, amaretto, maybe Grand Marnier? So when I saw the macaron fillings included rum, French brandy XO and Cointreau, those memories came flooding back. Yes, they really do have alcohol and I got carded for them – lol.

You get 12 in a box – 4 of each flavor ($5.49/ box). And you can definitely get away with defrosting them for less than the four hours advised on the box. The macaron shells are pretty much on par with all of Trader Joe’s other frozen macarons – a little more chewy than crackly. Ideally, they’d be both, but hey, they’re frozen, what do you want? The thing is, for me, rum was the best of the three. The brandy wasn’t super distinctive in flavor or booziness, and the Cointreau packed the most punch. I’d call it the booziest of the bunch.

After having a bite of all three, I only finished the rum one. So take that as you will.

I might buy them for a holiday get together and serve them alongside the mini chocolate mousse desserts, but otherwise, I wouldn’t buy Trader Joe’s Boozy Macarons again. I’m still thinking about the rum pound cake. I’ll drop the nutrition facts below for those who want the detail.
