We Tried Trader Joe’s Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns
I was skeptical when I saw that Trader Joe's newest dumpling was teriyaki-flavored. Teriyaki in a bao? I imagined a gloopy super sweet soy-based sauce overwhelming the veg filling. But now that I've tried Trader Joe's Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns? I think it's meant to be more of a shorthand toward a sweet,…

We Tried Trader Joe’s Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Bites

When I first saw Trader Joe’s Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Bites I wondered if I could fool myself into believing they were really little donuts. I threw them in the air fryer, preheated to 400F and air fried them for 10 minutes. When they came out with a nice crackly crust dusted with cinnamon.sugar, I was extra encouraged.

But as it turns out, there’ll be no fooling myself that they’re donuts. They’re definitely soft oatmeal bites with a a crackly crust — and dang, THEY ARE PRETTY GOOD. You could dust them with a little more cinnamon sugar, or even dip them in a little maple syrup. But (as usual) for me, they didn’t need it.

I think they’d be more of a snack or even dessert, rather than a breakfast item for me, but whatever floats your boat. They’re best when they’re hot, but still pretty reasonable once they’ve cooled off. I thought they might get gummy, you know how cold oatmeal is, but no, they were ok.

One bag of Trader Joe’s Apple CInnamon Oatmeal Bites comes with 9 bites (3 per serving) for $3.99, so 44 cents per bite. Fun to try or have once in awhile, but knowing how cheap oatmeal is, I doubt I’d buy them on the regular at that price. I’d rather have a box of frozen croissants. :)
