We Tried Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Yellow Mini Sheet Cake
with Chocolate Frosting! I've been on alert for Trader Joe's Yellow Mini Sheet Cake with chocolate frosting after seeing u/aswewaltz posted it in NY on Reddit 8 days ago. Every trip, I was disappointed. But today...finally... TJ's in the PNW have been blessed with the new gluten free sheet cake. So let's cut into it!…
Trader Joe's Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns bag with bao on a red steamer basket
We Tried Trader Joe’s Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns
I was skeptical when I saw that Trader Joe's newest dumpling was teriyaki-flavored. Teriyaki in a bao? I imagined a gloopy super sweet soy-based sauce overwhelming the veg filling. But now that I've tried Trader Joe's Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns? I think it's meant to be more of a shorthand toward a sweet,…

We Tried Almond Breeze Mexican Hot Chocolate

Right about now, we're all turning to hot apple cider, boozy egg nog, and giant mugs of tea, coffee, or cocoa to keep us warm. Blue Diamond is making sure no one is left out in the cold with Almond Breeze Mexican Hot Chocolate.

Tis the Season for Warming Winter Drinks

Right about now, we’re turning to hot apple cider, boozy egg nog, and giant mugs of coffee or cocoa to keep warm. Blue Diamond is making sure no one is left out in the cold with Almond Breeze Mexican Hot Chocolate, now hitting the refrigerated section in your local grocer ($3.49 suggested retail price).

Often, Mexican hot chocolate products aim to mimic Nestle’s Abuelita chocolate with a little bit of a cinnamon.

But I have to say, Almond Breeze Mexican Hot Chocolate totally exceeded expectations with rich, chocolaty flavor, and a cayenne kick. (The ingredient list says red pepper, I’m assuming it’s cayenne). Along with cinnamon and allspice, it rounds out the drink without building up too much as you go. And of course, since it’s made with almonds, it’s dairy- and soy-free.

Would I buy it again? Definitely.

As non-alcoholic offerings become more popular at holiday parties, this Mexican Hot Chocolate is a great option. The carton even includes instructions for warming it in a slow cooker a la your favorite cider.

But a beverage isn’t your only option. It would also make a tasty Mexican chocolate pudding, too. Use cornstarch as your thickener if you need to keep it vegan.

Almond Breeze Mexican Hot Chocolate is available now through January. Use Blue Diamond’s product locator to find a store near you. In the Seattle area, I recently spotted it at New Seasons Market.

If chocolate isn’t your thing, Almond Breeze also has an almond milk horchata (it’s super tasty over ice with an extra sprinkle of cinnamon) and an almond-based Nog, too.

Thank you to Blue Diamond’s PR folks for sending samples our way.
