After a couple of big weeks, things were pretty quiet at my local Trader Joe's when it comes to new/returning products. I'm still on the lookout for the ube mochi ice cream, but no luck yet. It's ok, I bought some Tillamook strawberry shortcake frozen custard over the weekend and I…
We finally had a nice couple of days this weekend, so we fired up the grill and cooked up Trader Joe's Jalapeño Mango Chicken sausage. I couldn't quite decide what to top it with, so I grabbed the jar of TJ's pineapple jam out of the fridge and added red onion and a little cilantro.…
Before last weekend's Super Bowl, you might have seen the Baking Steel's pizza face off between a Seattle Skittle pizza and a New England sausage pie. As much as we love Marshawn Lynch around here, I don't think many of us are sprinkling Skittles on our 'za. Ann Osbourne Peavey, who commented on the Baking Steel Facebook post, called for a "REAL Seattle pizza" with Uli's Famous Sausage and Beecher's Cheese among other ingredients. With thanks to Ann for the inspiration, I bring you this week's #FridayNightSlice -- an Andouille and Crimini Mushroom pie topped with mozzarella and Beecher's Flagship. Now that's a Seattle pizza.
The other night Wolf and I were watching House of Cards and talking about Kevin Spacey. We’re doling out the episodes, one per evening rather than gorging on the whole season. When was it that Kevin Spacey broke out? We reckoned it was the trifecta of The Ref, Usual Suspects and Swimming with Sharks that really put him on the map. Two years later, in 1997, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil came out. Now I admit, I haven’t seen this film in years, and really all I could remember about it was that it was set in New Orleans. So I looked it up on IMDB and I haven’t stopped laughing since. Look at that ‘stache!
It turns out Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil was set in Savannah, not New Orleans. Quirky characters walking invisible dogs, antebellum architecture, wrought iron gates, seersucker suits, you can see how my memory might have interchanged the cities after so long. Did my entire opening just get blown up? Well, whatever. We’re still having One Pot Jambalaya with Andouille Sausage.
This wasn't supposed to be a blog post, just dinner on Monday night. There are no photos of cherry tomatoes casually rolling toward the edge of the counter, or a scatter of pasta strategically positioned behind the bowl. There's not even a fork, just a quick snapshot because I was texting it to Wolf to get him to hurry up on home. Then, I was pleasantly surprised by how fast and delicious it actually was, so, well, here we are. Gemelli con salsiccia e pomodorini…which sounds fancy, no? Gemelli with sausage and cherry tomatoes. Let’s go.
