We Tried Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Yellow Mini Sheet Cake
with Chocolate Frosting! I've been on alert for Trader Joe's Yellow Mini Sheet Cake with chocolate frosting after seeing u/aswewaltz posted it in NY on Reddit 8 days ago. Every trip, I was disappointed. But today...finally... TJ's in the PNW have been blessed with the new gluten free sheet cake. So let's cut into it!…
We Tried Trader Joe’s Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns
I was skeptical when I saw that Trader Joe's newest dumpling was teriyaki-flavored. Teriyaki in a bao? I imagined a gloopy super sweet soy-based sauce overwhelming the veg filling. But now that I've tried Trader Joe's Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns? I think it's meant to be more of a shorthand toward a sweet,…

SUPERFAN by Sarina Bowen | Book Review

ARC provided by the author’s publicist for review

Gah, Silas! Cinnamon roll of all cinnamon roll heroes!

Sarina Bowen’s SUPERFAN, her latest set in the Brooklyn Bruisers world, finally gives us the lowdown on Silas Kelly’s longstanding crush on pop star Delilah Sparks. In this second chance romance. Delilah Sparks is the one who got away. They knew each other before either one was famous.

Three years have gone by when Silas spots Delilah at an LA/Dallas playoff game, rooting for and wearing a Dallas jersey. He pulls a few strings and a Bruisers jersey is delivered to her at her seat along with a bet for a date. Silas’ crush on Delilah has always been adorably cheesy, it’s a fitting (re)meet cute.

As usual, there’s great chemistry between Silas and Delilah. We get a look at how they first met. He’s super supportive of her dreams and her career from the get-go in a way that her douchebag boyfriend Brett actually is not. And then Silas totally blows it. It’s only because he’s such a good guy otherwise that I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

For me, SUPERFAN ends up being more of a rockstar romance than hockey, so if that’s your jam, you’ll be happy. There’s a lot of focus on Delilah and her issues with her record label and management.

I liked that Silas and Delilah are both committed to their careers (on opposite coasts), and for once, it’s the dude making work sacrifices for the relationship, and doing it willingly. At the same time, I just didn’t really care about all the music industry business and drama with trying to get her album released. (Just personal preference). And there’s a scene in a Starbucks that had me giving Delilah big time side eye.

No one has said it’s the last one, but if this ends up being the last Bruisers hockey book, it is a fitting ending. It’s great to see Silas get his HEA. The whole Bruisers crew makes an appearance, Delilah totally gels with Rebecca, Georgia and Ari.

And we definitely get some set up for what looks like it’ll be a romantic suspense spin off…Moonlighter.

3.5 stars
