We Tried Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Yellow Mini Sheet Cake
with Chocolate Frosting! I've been on alert for Trader Joe's Yellow Mini Sheet Cake with chocolate frosting after seeing u/aswewaltz posted it in NY on Reddit 8 days ago. Every trip, I was disappointed. But today...finally... TJ's in the PNW have been blessed with the new gluten free sheet cake. So let's cut into it!…
We Tried Trader Joe’s Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns
I was skeptical when I saw that Trader Joe's newest dumpling was teriyaki-flavored. Teriyaki in a bao? I imagined a gloopy super sweet soy-based sauce overwhelming the veg filling. But now that I've tried Trader Joe's Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns? I think it's meant to be more of a shorthand toward a sweet,…

Saturday Eat-a-Thon: Half Moon Bay Inn & Kitchen, The Ritz Wine Room, Luella

Last weekend some friends were in town from Denver, which gave us a good excuse to spend the day eating and drinking. We kicked off the day with brunch/lunch at the Half Moon Bay Inn and Kitchen. The place was empty when we walked in at 11:15, but by 11:45 it was full up.

The burger’s always a safe choice for me — you can tell a lot about a place by it’s burger. This quarter-pounder (no cheese) had a nice buttery-top bun and came with big fat onion rings as an option on the side. 2 out of the 3 onion rings were good – the last one was kinda doughy.

OJ went the breakfast route and had the three cheese omelette. It was what it said it was — an omelette with three cheeses, but was nothing out of the ordinary, according to OJ.

We then headed for the Wine Room at the Ritz Carlton — it being the weekend before Valentine’s Day they were doing a flight of sparkling rose’s. OJ not being much for the champagne went with the pinot flight. Great atmosphere, good wine. On a sunny day we could have been there for hours and hours and spent hundreds and hundreds and hundreds.

The day was finished off with dinner at Luella in the City. The Coca-Cola braised pork shoulder was calling my name from the moment I saw it on the menu online. It was beyond tender and the sauce was almost teriyaki-ish (delish!). I was so full by the time we got to dessert that I couldn’t bring myself to have the fritters…next time for sure. Parking is an absolute nightmare, so if/when we go again, we’ll be cabbing it or hopping on the cable car.

  • >I can't believe you didn't mention those tasty oysters at the Ritz! And I can't agree more about Luella's... not only is a taxi the best best, but also a wheelbarrel to get us out the door! Erin had hoped to add her 2 cents about her dinner... but after much searching of her memory, she finally accepted that she can't remember a thing... except is was a great place with great friends --- Good Times!
