We Tried Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Yellow Mini Sheet Cake
with Chocolate Frosting! I've been on alert for Trader Joe's Yellow Mini Sheet Cake with chocolate frosting after seeing u/aswewaltz posted it in NY on Reddit 8 days ago. Every trip, I was disappointed. But today...finally... TJ's in the PNW have been blessed with the new gluten free sheet cake. So let's cut into it!…
We Tried Trader Joe’s Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns
I was skeptical when I saw that Trader Joe's newest dumpling was teriyaki-flavored. Teriyaki in a bao? I imagined a gloopy super sweet soy-based sauce overwhelming the veg filling. But now that I've tried Trader Joe's Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns? I think it's meant to be more of a shorthand toward a sweet,…

Every long term series goes through ebbs and flows and the latest book in Deanna Raybourn’s Veronica Speedwell series is is one of the ebbs. A Grave Robbery, out today, is a straightforward, low key murder mystery, light on the adventure that’s been part of the earlier books.

Veronica and Stoker, our two natural scientist investigators, have been enjoying their own definition of domestic bliss, continuing to work on cataloging Lord Rosemorran’s collection. They come into possession of an Anatomical Venus and discover that rather than a wax figure, she’s a real person meticulously embalmed. But who is she? And why was she not buried?

Nine books in, readers only partially get the payoff they’ve been hoping for with Veronica and Stoker. I say partially because if you’re also a romance reader, you’ll be frustrated with the fact that Veronica is sparing with the details, Yes, I know it’s a mystery first and foremost…and still…coming off some disappointment in Miss Scarlet and the Duke series 4, well…

But at this point with the series, I’m in for a penny, in for a pound. A Grave Robbery is an enjoyable, if not totally enthralling read. What’s exciting is A Grave Robbery continues to provide great setup for a JJ Butterworth series. Fingers crossed.

3.5 stars (but yes, I preordered a signed copy).

Deanna Raybourn will sign copies at a DMV-area launch event Saturday, March 16 in conjunction with Fountain Bookstore. Tickets and event details.
