We Tried Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Yellow Mini Sheet Cake
with Chocolate Frosting! I've been on alert for Trader Joe's Yellow Mini Sheet Cake with chocolate frosting after seeing u/aswewaltz posted it in NY on Reddit 8 days ago. Every trip, I was disappointed. But today...finally... TJ's in the PNW have been blessed with the new gluten free sheet cake. So let's cut into it!…
We Tried Trader Joe’s Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns
I was skeptical when I saw that Trader Joe's newest dumpling was teriyaki-flavored. Teriyaki in a bao? I imagined a gloopy super sweet soy-based sauce overwhelming the veg filling. But now that I've tried Trader Joe's Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns? I think it's meant to be more of a shorthand toward a sweet,…

PCC COMMUNITY MARKETS NOW OPEN IN BURIEN

PCC has had a free fruit and vegetable program for kids since 2004, allowing them to try anything they like.

PCC Community Markets opened its 12th store this week in Burien. The largest community-owned food market in the United States, Burien PCC is the co-op’s first store south of Seattle. It features an in-store taqueria, pizzeria, and yogurt bar with Pure Èire dairy. It’s also the only store in the group to offer freshly ground peanut butter with chocolate chips in its bulk section. (Scroll through the gallery above to see more).

PCC Community Markets are certified organic with products sourced from local producers, farmers and fishers. To help familiarize shoppers with its products, PCC offers a free, monthly “Walk, Talk and Taste” class (registration required) which provides nutrition information and the opportunity to sample PCC offerings. Burien’s next available class is July 11. Registration for the full slate of PCC Cooks summer classes opens May 30.

PCC Burien is the second store in the group to feature meal kits hand-packed in PCC kitchens.  Selections include Sesame-Gochujang Steak with Kimchi Fried Rice, Blackened Fish Tacos, and Red Lentil Curry with Jasmine Rice, Zucchini and Warm Halloumi Cheese. PCC meal kits are also available for delivery from Instacart and Amazon Prime Now.

During a tour shortly before the store’s opening, store directors highlighted the location’s commitment to community building and involvement. Even before opening, PCC participated in  last month’s Taste of Burien and Burien Clean Sweep, which picks up trash and removes graffiti.

The co-op plans to open new stores in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood in 2019 and Madison Valley and Downtown Seattle in 2020. West Seattle is slated to re-open in 2019.

It’s free to shop at PCC, but members can save 10 percent on one shopping trip a month and 5 percent on purchases on the 15th and 16th of each month. Membership info is available here.

PCC Burien is open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. It is located in Five Corners Shopping Center at 15840 1st Avenue South in Burien, Wash.
