We Tried Trader Joe’s Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns
I was skeptical when I saw that Trader Joe's newest dumpling was teriyaki-flavored. Teriyaki in a bao? I imagined a gloopy super sweet soy-based sauce overwhelming the veg filling. But now that I've tried Trader Joe's Teriyaki Mushroom Mini Bao Buns? I think it's meant to be more of a shorthand toward a sweet,…

3 Quick Hit Fall Trader Joe’s Reviews

Today I’ve got a roundup of three quick hit Trader Joe’s reviews for you featuring three of TJ’s newest fall items. Read on for my take on Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Overnight Oats, Brigadeiros, and Butternut Squash Lasagna.

I’m not a huge overnight oats person but the Pumpkin Overnight Oats leans pumpkin pie with some oats. The ingredient is straight forward and it’s got dates in the mix, so it’s not overly sweet. But something about eating it cold is weird for me, so I’d get it again, but I’d probably end up mixing half the container into a hot bowl of oatmeal. It does stick to your bones. I had it before heading to farmers market last weekend and made it through to lunch no problem.

I really thought Trader Joe’s Butternut Squash was gonna be the alternative for all of us who have found the butternut mac and cheese overspiced. (Not sure how this year’s version is). But i found it just ok. I opted to microwave the lasagna (45 minutes in the oven wasn’t gonna happen for such a small pan). There’s a smokiness to it, you can definitely smell it while it’s microwaving, and you get it in a bite here and there.

Pasta texture was decent, but I wish it had more chunks of butternut squash. I also wasn’t a fan of the texture of the pumpkin seeds on top. I ate about half of it before bailing out. This one’s not for me. Won’t be buying it again.

Brigadeiros, the truffle-like bon bons synonymous with Brazil, are a win. These are Product of Portugal, so I think TJ’s is calling them Portuguese on a technicality. You thaw them for a couple of hours and I found that if you go the distance they’re actually better. When they’re still a little chilly, they taste more like jarred frosting, but as they warm up, the chocolate flavor develops pretty nicely. I like these. It’d be easy to polish off the whole box, but I managed to limit myself to three. Buy again? Yes.
