Sarah MacLean’s new contemporary fiction novel is hitting at exactly the right time. These Summer Storms whisks you away to sun dappled coastal Rhode Island, where the Storm family is converging on the family summer estate after the death of the patriarch. But papa’s always pulled the strings in this family, and he’s gonna make them work for it one last time, inheritance games style. Old wounds are reopened, and secrets revealed on the sun-kissed shores of Newport. It’s family drama, it’s sibling rivalry, it’s just a smidge of bodyguard romance vibes. And I absolutely adored it.
I’ve loved MacLean’s historicals, so I shouldn’t have doubted she’d work her magic in a contemporary setting. The picture she paints of Newport is sure to lure readers into historical romance to find out more about who might have walked the halls of some of these gorgeous mansions. If I didn’t know better, I’d say this book is a little bit of a Trojan Horse. Heh, I love it.
If you’re an audiobook reader, Julia Whelan is doing the audio! Sarah is also on tour in July (details here) with stops in cities including Chicago; Winston-Salem, NC; and Decatur, GA (Atlanta). The West Coast is eagerly waiting for its turn on this tour — with 3 states on the water and its own Newport in SoCal. (Hint, hint).
