I made a pre-New Year’s Costco run this week, and bumped into Costco’s Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie at the Food Court. I’d seen rumors on Reddit that it was coming and lucked out. At 750 calories, it’s a chonky all butter cookie with both semisweet and bittersweet chocolate. Priced at $2.49.
Now, the Costco bakery section box of 24 chocolate chip runs $9.99. But they also use canola or palm oil. And Costco seems to going a more premium route with these single cookies. The sign highlights “all butter” and the two kinds of chocolate chunks. And as some Redditors pointed out, a single Crumbl cookie runs $4+.
I couldn’t justify buying the Costco bakery section box of 24 to compare, but the Food Court cookie is served warm (it sits under the heat lamps below pizza), and it is a thick cookie. I ended up eating just half. It’s got a good amount of what seems to be good quality chocolate despite the top view. Scroll for the bottom of the cookie and the cross section.
Redditor u/ilford_7x7 wondered how the Costco FC cookie compares to the Bristol Farms The Cookie. (I believe it’s the same as the Met Market The Cookie, as they’re owned by the same holding company). It’s a big ol’ chocolate chip cookie made with Callebaut chocolate and walnuts. For me, “The Cookie” truly is premium, and better/tastier than the Costco Food court. But it’s also about $1 more. And if you can’t eat nuts, then it’s not an option for you. When I get “The Cookie” I usually get the smaller multi-pack rather than the single big cookie because the Met Market I usually go to bakes them a little softer in the middle than I like.
Bottom line, the Costco Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie is a tasty cookie. You have to make your own call about the calories. But even seeing where Costco is trying to place this cookie on the premium cookie spectrum, I’d like it more for $1.50. Would I get it again? Once in a while, maybe. But at $2.49 it wouldn’t be an automatic add-on when I get a slice of pizza and soda.
