Turmeric Twist Juice Blend, Blarney Scone & Chicken Chile Verde Burritos
Coming at ya with 3 quick hit reviews of new/recent adds at my local Trader Joe’s. We’re all over the store today: Trader Joe’s Organic Turmeric Twist, St. Paddy’s themed Blarney Scone and new to the freezer section, the reformulated Chicken Chile Verde burritos. Let’s get to it.

Trader Joe’s Organic Turmeric Twist is a blend of orange, carrot, ginger and turmeric juices with a little lemon and apple juice thrown in. While it’s got a gorgeous orange color from the carrots, I honestly only taste one thing here: ginger. Which I like. So it’s kind like a ginger shot on steroids. But if you don’t, Turmeric Twist is not gonna be for you. It won’t be a buy again for me, mostly because it’s rockin’ 30g of sugar. Even though it’s not added sugars, I’m still watching my intake.

I can’t remember the last time I had the old formulation of the Chicken Chile Verde burritos, but you remember them, right? They came in a paper tray with a cellophane wrapper in the freezer section. Anyway, the replacement is here in a bright yellow and orange box, you can’t miss it. But I gotta tell ya, even for a quick convenience lunch, these are pretty mid. The chicken was fine, but the chile verde was kind of whatever, maybe more tomatillo than chile. I wished it had more texture. But maybe that’s because if I make chicken chile verde I usually have zucchini and peppers with it. They come 2 to a box, and there’s still one sitting in my freezer. I don’t know if it’ll ever get eaten.

Finally, as we start to ramp toward St. Patrick’s Day, Trader Joe’s Blarney Scone has landed. I forgot their version is traditional and has caraway seeds. You can definitely taste them. If you don’t mind them, slather a slice with a little butter and you’re off to the races. Check your dates and make sure you’re getting the freshest one you can. They do tend to dry out by the use by date.

We did a Trader Joe’s St. Patrick’s round up last year, but do note, the Irish Bangers did not come back in 2024 (RIP). Corned beef is already in. As is the Irish Porter Cheddar and a few beer selections. The Smithwick’s Red is in cans this year. With so many Winter Holiday and Valentine’s items sticking around, it’ll be interesting to see if any additional specialty items land for St. Paddy’s. Stay tuned.
