I love that Trader Joe’s keeps rolling out pasta shapes you don’t see on the reg in American grocery stores. The World’s Largest Fusilli, available around the holidays, remains a favorite. But I’m also really liking Trader Joe’s Mafalda Corta with its ruffly little edges. They’re almost like itty bitty lasagna sheets.
I ended up trying it out with zucchini, tomatoes, and capers from this Blue Apron recipe. You can get all the ingredients from Trader Joe’s, but for me, it doesn’t really need the creme fraiche. It does add a little bit of a creamy tang, but at $5 a tub, I’d rather just add some more grated cheese and pasta water and call it good.
I think the Mafalda would also work with a basic meat ragu or Bolognese sauce. I think that’ll be next on the to-do list. Will I buy Trader Joe’s Mafalda Corta again? For sure.
