Macarons, Ice Pops and Dream Bars – Oh, My!
I literally don’t have enough room in my freezer for all the new summer treats at Trader Joe’s. Along with last year’s faves Tangerine Cream bars and Non-Dairy Oat Milk Fudgesicles, TJ’s added Watermelon & Peach Macarons, Blueberry Dream Bars, Out of the World Ice Pops (like an old school red, white and blue bomb pop) and Horchata Ice Cream. Meanwhile I’m still waiting for the Ube Mochi Ice Cream!
But today, let’s talk watermelon and peach macarons ($5.49 per box). Watermelon seemed like sort of a weird flavor for macarons when I first heard about these. And after tasting it, yep, it’s watermelon. Between the two, I prefer the peach. The box advises you to let them thaw for an hour before eating, but I tried them after about 15 minutes (on a not particularly warm day) and they were good to go.
Like all TJ’s frozen macarons, they’re on the softer side without the little bit of crackly exterior that fresh baked macarons have, but for what they are, no complaints. And at least with these, the serving size on the box makes some sense.
BLUEBERRY DREAM BARS
Blueberry isn’t even my favorite summer berry flavor, but these are Dream Bars are good. With both blueberry ice cream and extra blueberry juice, they’re packing a major blueberry punch. Now if they would just make these in raspberry, strawberry, or even tayberry, I’d be in heaven.
OUT OF THIS WORLD ICE POPS
I didn’t have room in my freezer to pick these up today, so they’ll be for another trip. I loved these when I was a kid and the ice cream man came through our neighborhood. I remember the white section being more like lemon-lime/Sprite flavor, so we’ll see how truly fruity (or tart) these are soon.
Review of the Horchata ice cream and Out of the Blue Ice Pops coming soon. In the meantime, check out these other We Tried’s from Trader Joe’s:
