I’m squeezing Trader Joe’s Cheese Pastry Rolls in this week because you’re gonna wanna grab two boxes for brunch this weekend. If a cream cheese danish is your favorite, but you’d love if it if the crust was a little crispier and flakier, these are for you.
The good news is, these require no proofing. If like me, you’d have to set an alarm to remind you to proof them, these are a great solution. They go straight from the freezer into the oven, baked at 400F for 22 minutes. For me, the chocolate and almond crossiants are still #1, but these are delicious. They’re just small. So a box of 4 is really only going to cover 2 people, unless you’ve got other items on your brunch menu.
But here’s the thing, delicious as they are, one pastry has 14g of fat and 220 calories. We all know what we’re in for when it comes to anything with laminated doughs or puff pastry, but WHOA. I didn’t even look at the nutrition facts until I had eaten two of them. Whoops. And weirdly, even with that much fat, I was hungry for real food by mid-morning.
Anyway, still worth it. Just know what you’re getting into. Would I buy Trader Joe’s Cheese Pastry Rolls again? Yes. But I’d probably have them as a 3rd option to go with the Chocolate or Almond croissants if I was having people over for brunch.
