We Tried Trader Joe’s Thai Banana Fritters

Trader Joe’s Thai Banana Fritters are one of those desserts that I think go best at the end of a Thai, or even Vietnamese meal. When you just want something a little sweet, a little crunchy, but not full on dessert. Though, it you wanted to have them with ice cream on the side, you totally could.

You get six to a box, and based on what the nutrition facts say, you’re looking at about 4 grams of fat per piece. They’re vegan and gluten free since they’re coated in rice flour. I air fried them assuming that’s how you’d get the best results. Followed the directions on the box: 6 minutes at 400F. Let them cool for 1-2 minutes. I was skeptical that they’d actually crisp up while cooling, but they did!

You need to remember that these aren’t made with the standard Cavendish bananas you cut up and put in your Cheerios. Texture-wise, they’re closer to plaintains. The ingredient list includes both coconut milk and shredded coconut, but the coconut flavor wasn’t really noticeable to me when they were hot. But I came back for a second one a few hours later, and although it was cold, it still pretty crispy, all things considered. And you could definitely taste the coconut then.

Would I buy Trader Joe’s Thai Banana Fritters again? Maybe. If I was specifically thinking I’d make some green curry and pad Thai.
