So, I know we’re past Valentine’s Day, but I had to go ahead and document Trader Joe’s Heart Macarons. Holiday-related items have been flying out the door and I knew I wouldn’t get a second shot at picking these up. And I didn’t want to be the jerk buying the last two boxes at my TJ’s.
The little heart shaped cuties come in two flavors — Raspberry and Vanilla Creme with (an allegedly) strawberry center. The truth is, it just tastes like vanilla. It’s a very pronounced vanilla, but I saw and tasted no strawberry. What a shame. Texture is fine for the frozen variety, a little chewy, but getting them fresh from a local bakery is always gonna be the way for good macarons.
That said, I really wouldn’t have minded a vanilla macaron with a chocolate hazelnut creme. Hopefully Trader Joe’s Heart Macarons will be back next year, and more people will have a shot at picking them up.
The heart shaped jelly beans are still my favorite of the Valentine’s treats. The XOXO gummies are cute, but taste terrible to me. But yeah, I still bought a bag, because they’re cute for bookstagram photos and as you know, if you check out the book reviews on here, I read a lot of romance. Along with thrillers, women’s fic and Asian American YA.
