CRASHING THE A-LIST by Summer Heacock | Spot Review

CRASHING THE A-LIST by Summer Heacock totally broke me out of a reading slump. Here’s the lowdown: Clara gets laid off from her gig as an editor in publishing and finds herself crashing on her brother’s couch. While she searches for a new job, she takes a gig cleaning out storage spaces and stumbles on some compromising info on an A-List actor from an old escort agency. She could easily sell it to a tabloid site for some fast cash, but should she?

Crashing the A-List set next to a pair of red patent open toe heels.

A few too many cocktails helps set into motion a crazy series of events that involves accidental blackmail, a fake relationship, and a lot of laughs. Clara is a hilariously blunt, tell-it-like-she-sees it heroine, so she’s hardly starry-eyed when Caspian Tiddleswich (LOL) turns up ready to stop her from selling the story.

Their relationship is very one step forward, two steps back, which might be frustrating for some readers. It also takes a looooooong time for these two to actually kiss, which might be my only gripe about the book. The rest is closed door.

CRASHING THE A-LIST is a hilarious book with romantic elements. I’d call it a rom-com, with emphasis on the comedy. I think the publisher was labeling it women’s fiction, but don’t get too wrapped up in the labels. It’s a fun, fast read, that, sure I wish had more smooching, but that’s only because I kept hearing Tom Hiddleston voicing Caspian in my head.

4 stars

Summer Heacock is on a rom-com panel tonight in NYC at Strand Books with Helena Hunting, Abby Jimenez and Kristina Forest.
