Upfront, let me say I’ve never made pimento cheese dip from scratch. I’m from California and it’s a dip I’ve always associated with the South. So this “review” of Trader Joe’s Pimento Cheese Dip isn’t coming from a life long lover of pimento cheese. All I can tell you is, I’m gonna be making up for lost time.
Trader Joe’s Pimento Cheese Dip ($3.99 for a 10 oz. container) is duh-licious. Open the tub, give it a little stir and grab some crackers out of the cupboard. You could also slather it between a couple of slices of white bread. Either way, this one isn’t gonna last long. The ingredient list is pretty straight forward: extra sharp cheddar, roasted pimentos, mayo, canola oil, egg yolks, vinegar, lemon, salt, sugar, onion powder, citric acid and “spice.”
Just to see what would happen, I warmed up a couple of tablespoons in a little bowl to see how “nachos” friendly it might be. It’s totally NOT how you’re intended to eat it, but I did it anyway. The cheese firms up pretty fast, so it’s not like this is going to be a replacement for cheese sauce. But, if it’s just you, and you’ve got a craving for nachos and no other options, you could totally use this dip.
Pimento Cheese experts, let me know what you thought of this one. Do you have a go-to for store bought pimento cheese dip?
