Odette Williams’ Simple Cake Lives Up to its Moniker Deliciously
Inspired by childhood memories and a classic Aussie cookbook, SIMPLE CAKE by Odette Williams delivers 10 cakes, 15 toppings and 30 cakeworthy moments. It’s a delightful book that will appeal to home cooks of all capabilities. I’ll be honest, I’m a lazy baker. I like the results of home baking, but I just don’t have the artistry or the time to make wow-worthy cakes at home.
Simple Cake changes that. It’s got a modular set of cake recipes and topping options with added flexibility for different pan sizes. Ingredients are mostly easy-to-find. Based on my bakes so far, the recipes are straight-forward and easy-to-execute. The results? Delicious. I’ve made the single-layer Coconut Cake with Coconut Glaze, the Lovely Lemon Yogurt Cake, and the Cinnamon Spice Cake, which calls for spelt flour. You can see the results in the gallery up top.
I’m sure I’ll be making the madeleines as we get closer to Easter and I can’t wait for summer to make the raspberry curd and to try my hand at using the coconut cake for a Victoria sponge.
I’ve been participating in Ten Speed Press’ Ambassador program and we’ve been posting our bakes on Instagram. To see more from Simple Cake, check out #simplecakebook on IG and follow Odette Williams at @odettewilliams.
